Biofuel can be safely used, Nitin Gadkari

Union Shipping Minister, Nitin Gadkari today said that bio-fuel can be safely used as bio-aviation fuel to fly an aircraft. He said this after releasing a book titled “Routes of Prosperity”, which discusses about India’s initiatives in Intercontinental Connectivity at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai.

Giving a latest example, wherein, a Spice Jet aircraft was flown from Dehradun to Delhi, Mr. Gadkari said that besides aviation fuel there was 25 per cent bio-aviation fuel mixed to operationalize the plane. He further said that the aircraft can be operationalized solely through bio-aviation fuel.

He said that farmers’ can cultivate non-edible oil seed, which can produce bio-aviation fuel. He further said that bio-aviation fuel cost 50 rupees per litre as against 75 rupees for the aviation fuel. He said, if the non-edible oil seed is cultivated on waste land, then bio-diesel and bio-aviation fuel can be extracted from there.

Mr Gadkari also said that 8 lakh crore rupees are spent on importing crude oil. If the farmers produce bio-fuel to the tune of 2 lakh crore rupees than it will not only strengthen the economy but will also give job opportunity to millions of youth.
