Celebrations of Vivah Panchami begins in Janakpur

In Nepal, celebrations of Vivah Panchami, the wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, are on in the historic Janakpur city. During the week-long celebrations, various rituals of the Rama-Sita marriage are being performed. Our correspondent reports that “Dhanush Yagya” the bow breaking ceremony was held at famous Barabeegha ground last evening.

Thousands of devotees from India and Nepal including hundreds of Sadhus attended it The “Swayamvar” and marriage ceremony will be held on Wednesday. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath and his counterpart from Nepal’s Province 2, Lalbabu Raut will also grace the occasion.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, the eldest son of Ayodhya’s King Dashrath married Goddess Sita, the daughter of King Janak of Janakpur on Vivah Panchami. The festival is observed every year to mark the occasion. Vivah Panchami also highlights age old social and cultural bonding between India and Nepal that has been cherished for centuries.
