Central delegation to begin its tour of drought affected districts in Maharashtra today

A 10-member central delegation will begin its tour of drought-affected districts in Maharashtra from Wednesday.

The delegation will visit tehsils in Marathwada, Vidarbha and Western Maharashtra to assess crop damage. It will also speak to affected farmers and officials of revenue, agriculture, and relief and rehabilitation departments.

The delegation will meet concerned cabinet ministers in Mumbai on Friday and discuss rainfall records, cropping pattern data and assessment reports prepared by local revenue officials.

In October this year, Maharashtra government had said that around 151 talukas spread across 26 districts are facing ‘drought-like’ conditions due to deficient rainfall.

This visit by the Central Government’s delegation will pave way for some financial assistance to farmers.
