J&K: Polling for 2nd phase of Panchayat election going on smoothly

In Jammu and Kashmir, Polling for the 2nd phase of Panchayat election which began at 8 am amidst  stringent security arrangements is going on smoothly. The elections are being held in nine phases across the state.

In Jammu division the polling started at a brisk note with people standing in queues at many places despite severe cold conditions in several areas of Jammu Division. By 10 am maximum polling was recorded from Udhampur district at over 30 per cent followed by Poonch district at about 28 per cent.

In the first phase polling, 90 sarpanch and 1,069 panchs were elected unopposed while voting is taking place on the remaining  2810 sarpanch and 1,286 panch seats, for which 4,014 candidates are in the fray.
