Nagaland ahead of national average on many HDIs: 15th Finance Commission Chairman

Chairman of the Fifteenth Finance Commission Mr. N K Singh on Wednesday said Nagaland is ahead of national average on many Human Development Indices (HDI) inspite of scanty resources.

Briefing media persons after meeting with various stakeholders in Kohima this evening, the Chairman said the team had detailed talks with state government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and with various stakeholders and said the interaction with all stakeholders was fruitful.

He said during the meeting memorandums were submitted to the Commission by various stakeholders.

Mr. Singh said the Commission is positive with sympathetic and innovative approach in fostering the development of the economy of Nagaland.He said the Commission acknowledged the infrastructure development especially in road and airport connectivity.

Mentioning that the state has made tremendous strides in horticulture, particularly Nagaland Coffee that has been attracting international buyers, he said certification will further increase its visibility.

He said the emerging trends in GST of the state are encouraging and stated that Nagaland has shown comparable economic resilience by recovering fast from the decline in GSDP growth in 2015-16 to record growth rates around 10% in the years 2016-17and 2017-18.

The 14 member team of the Fifteenth Finance Commission led by the Chairman N K Singh will make a field visit to Touphema-Tourist Village tomorrow before concluding its tour.
