PM Modi to inaugurate Indian Science Congress in Jalandhar today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 106th Indian Science Congress at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara near Jalandhar today. He will also deliver the inaugural address before Nobel laureates, eminent scientists, policymakers, young researchers and school children, from across the country and abroad. The theme of this four-day mega event is  ‘Future India: Science and Technology’.

This event brings together leaders in science and technology from the country and abroad every year and is one of the most popular events for researchers and students of science and technology. Apart from eminent scientists from across the world, Cabinet Ministers including Union minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan and Textile Minister Smriti Irani are to attend the mega event.

“The Indian Science Congress Association has been organizing the Indian Science Congress annually with an aim to bring together science fraternity across the World to discuss scientific innovations and researches at a common platform. This year, the association has invited six Nobel laureates from countries like Germany, Hungary, England and some others.

The science congress will attract over 20,000 delegates including 3000 acclaimed scientists and researchers besides students from across 40 countries. The five-day mega event will also include Children’s Science Congress and Women Science Congress. The Children’s Science Congress is a unique opportunity for children in the age group of 10-17 years to showcase their innovative ideas.

On the eve of the Science Congress, ‘Flame of Knowledge’ rally was organized to arouse the spirit of science and technology among all. Dignitaries from Indian Science Congress Association & University, faculty, staff members and students of the university carried the torch from the main gate of the university to the cauldron situated at ‘Pride of India’ expo arena established at Campus.

Flame of Knowledge’ has been conceived on the lines of the Olympic Torch and inspired by the Vision- 2020 of former Indian President Dr A.P.J. Kalam for making India a powerful, progressive and prosperous nation. It is not only a tribute to the eminent scientists but also a movement dedicated to nurturing scientific temper in the society, especially the youth.
