TMC Lok Sabha MP Saumitra Khan joins BJP

In a major setback to Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, TMC Lok Sabha MP Saumitra Khan has joined BJP.  The Bishnupur MP had met BJP president Amit Shah before joining the party in the presence of Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi yesterday. Bolpur MP Anupam Hazra is expected to follow suit. TMC was quick to expel both Mr Khan and Mr Hazra for anti-party activities. BJP leader Mukul Roy said, at least five more TMC MPs are in touch with him and are keen to join the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Saumitra Khan said, Trinamool Congress has become a party of ‘aunt and her nephew’ and dynasty rule prevails there. Bishnupur MP said, TMC is being controlled by a group of leaders from south Kolkata and nobody thinks about the organisation in far-flung districts of West Bengal. Mr Khan said, all elections turning into a farce in the state. He said there is not a single instance in Bengal, when a poll was conducted peacefully. Every time, the ruling party uses bombs and bullets, he said.
