Srinagar, August 25: National Conference MP from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has said he will respond within a day or two to remarks by party president Farooq Abdullah regarding his resignation from Parliament.
Ruhullah has been at odds with sections of the National Conference leadership over his political position and his stated intention to resign from Parliament after taking his campaign on Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional issues to a certain level.
Farooq Abdullah had recently asked Ruhullah to resign and seek a fresh mandate if he disagreed with the party’s position. In response, Ruhullah indicated that he would address the remarks shortly.
Ruhullah has maintained that his possible resignation is linked to his political convictions and the larger issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, rather than any personal dispute with Farooq Abdullah, whom he has described as a fatherly figure.
He has also suggested that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah could resign and enter Parliament to lead the political campaign on issues including restoration of constitutional protections and statehood.
