Srinagar, March 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Thursday deliberated on a significant bill aimed at allowing the establishment of private universities in the Union Territory. The move is seen as a major step toward expanding higher education opportunities and attracting private investment in the academic sector.
Officials said the proposed legislation seeks to create a framework for private institutions to operate with transparency and accountability, while ensuring quality standards in line with national guidelines. The bill also outlines provisions for regulatory oversight to safeguard student interests and maintain academic excellence.
