Shivraj Chouhan Pushes For Stronger Link Between Agri-Education And Farms

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emphasised that agricultural education must go beyond classrooms and be closely connected with farms and farmers. He said students and professionals can gain a deeper understanding of agriculture by experiencing farming practices and interacting directly with those engaged in the sector.

Chouhan said agriculture is a practical field that cannot be fully understood through textbooks or classroom lessons alone. According to him, learning on farms and spending time with farmers can provide valuable insights into cultivation methods, challenges faced by farmers and the realities of agricultural production.

He stressed the importance of strengthening the connection between agricultural institutions, students, researchers and farming communities. Such interaction, he said, can help bridge the gap between agricultural research and its practical application in the fields.

The Agriculture Minister also highlighted the need to encourage young people to take greater interest in farming and related activities. Exposure to modern farming techniques, technology and innovations can help students understand the opportunities available in the agriculture sector.

He said research and education should ultimately contribute to improving farmers’ incomes, productivity and livelihoods. Closer collaboration between agricultural universities, scientists and farmers can help ensure that new technologies and scientific practices are developed according to the actual needs of farming communities.

Chouhan’s remarks underline the government’s focus on strengthening practical agricultural education and promoting a closer relationship between academic institutions and farmers to support innovation and sustainable growth in the farm sector.
