External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday during his two-day official visit to Russia, with the discussions focusing on strengthening India-Russia ties and expanding cooperation in key sectors.
Jaishankar conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings to Putin and handed over a personal message from the Prime Minister. He also briefed the Russian President on the deliberations of the 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission, which reviewed cooperation in trade, energy, fertilisers, nuclear power and other areas.
Jaishankar said economic cooperation between India and Russia had grown significantly, while both sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral trade and other areas of mutual interest.
Putin, meanwhile, highlighted the growth in bilateral trade and said Russia was ready to continue increasing fertiliser supplies to India. He also expressed hope of meeting Prime Minister Modi at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
The meeting comes ahead of several high-level engagements between the two countries. Modi and Putin are expected to meet at the SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan, while India is also set to host the BRICS Summit in New Delhi next month
