The Government has approved the transfer of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) missile technologies to Indian defence companies as part of efforts to strengthen domestic defence production and promote self-reliance in the sector.
The move is aimed at enabling Indian defence industries to adopt advanced technologies developed by DRDO and manufacture related systems and components within the country. The initiative is expected to support the expansion of indigenous defence capabilities and reduce dependence on imports.
Under the technology transfer process, eligible Indian defence companies will be able to access selected missile-related technologies developed by DRDO. The initiative is intended to encourage greater participation of the private sector and create opportunities for domestic manufacturers to develop and produce advanced defence equipment.
The government has been focusing on increasing indigenous defence production through initiatives that encourage technology development, local manufacturing and collaboration between DRDO, public sector defence enterprises and private industry.
The transfer of missile technologies is expected to strengthen India’s defence industrial base, promote innovation and help domestic companies build capabilities in high-technology areas. It will also contribute to the broader objective of achieving greater self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The initiative is part of the government’s wider efforts to develop India as a strong defence manufacturing hub and expand the domestic ecosystem for advanced military technologies.
