Chennai, November 5: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi continued her impressive Chennai Open campaign with a straight-sets victory over Poland’s Weronika Falkowska, securing a landmark quarter-final appearance for Indian women’s tennis.
The 17-year-old recovered from 4-2 down in the opening set before completing a 6-4, 6-3 win. She had earlier defeated eighth seed Katarzyna Kawa, rallying from 5-2 down in the deciding set of their first-round match.
The result makes Maaya the first Indian woman since Sania Mirza at Pattaya in 2012 to reach a WTA Tour-level singles quarter-final.
She will next face American Robin Montgomery as she seeks to extend her run in front of the home crowd. Maaya had previously reached the semi-finals of the Mumbai WTA 125 tournament in 2025.
