India has reaffirmed its commitment to combating the global drug menace by taking a leading role in strengthening anti-narcotics cooperation among BRICS nations. During a recent BRICS meeting on drug control, India highlighted the growing threat posed by transnational drug trafficking networks and stressed the need for closer coordination among member countries to tackle the problem effectively.
Indian representatives emphasized that narcotics trafficking is increasingly linked to organized crime, terrorism financing, money laundering, and cyber-enabled criminal activities. They called for enhanced intelligence sharing, stronger border management, capacity building, and coordinated enforcement actions to disrupt international drug supply chains and dismantle criminal networks operating across borders.
India also underlined the importance of adopting a balanced approach that combines strict law enforcement with preventive measures such as public awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programs, and international cooperation. The country reiterated its support for the United Nations’ global anti-drug framework and urged BRICS members to work together in addressing emerging challenges, including the illegal production and trafficking of synthetic drugs.
The BRICS members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration through regular information exchange, joint training initiatives, and coordinated efforts to combat drug trafficking. India stated that collective action among BRICS nations would play a crucial role in promoting regional and global security while protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit narcotics.
