<p>Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday said the government will introduce a resolution in the upcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issue affecting in-service teachers. She said the government is committed to addressing the concerns being raised by teachers over the matter. </p>
<p>Itoo said the Jammu and Kashmir government has already approached the Supreme Court seeking reconsideration of its decision making TET qualification mandatory for in-service teachers teaching primary and upper-primary classes. The issue has caused considerable concern and stress among sections of the teaching community.</p>
<p>The Education Minister said the matter was not merely about appearing for an examination but was also linked to the dignity, professional standing and honour of teachers. She emphasised that teachers play a crucial role in preparing students for examinations and shaping their academic careers, and their concerns should therefore be considered seriously. </p>
<p>Itoo said the proposed resolution would be placed before the Assembly once the session begins and expressed confidence that it would receive majority support. She said the government wants to help teachers overcome the uncertainty surrounding the TET issue so that they can continue their responsibilities towards students without mental pressure.</p>
<p>The issue follows the Supreme Court’s May 29 ruling that made TET qualification mandatory for in-service teachers. The court, however, allowed such teachers time until August 31, 2028, to qualify the examination and continue in service. The ruling has led to concerns among in-service teachers in several states, including Jammu and Kashmir. </p>
<p>The Jammu and Kashmir government’s proposed Assembly resolution is expected to provide an additional institutional platform to take up the concerns of affected teachers. The government has indicated that it will continue pursuing the matter through both legal and legislative channels.</p>
