R Praggnanandhaa has booked his place in the final of the Grand Chess Tour’s final leg after producing a commanding 19-9 win over Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the semifinal.
The Indian Grandmaster went into the final day with a six-point lead and quickly strengthened his position. He won both rapid games to open up a massive 17-3 advantage and put himself firmly in control of the contest.
Praggnanandhaa continued his strong run in the blitz section, winning the first game and taking his overall score to 19 points. Keymer responded by winning the next three blitz games, but the German had already fallen too far behind to change the outcome.
The victory sends Praggnanandhaa into the championship match, where he will face American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana. Caruana defeated Wesley So in the other semifinal to secure his place in the final.
With the semifinal now behind him, Praggnanandhaa will turn his attention to the final and look to convert his impressive run into a Grand Chess Tour title.
