India enforced the follow-on against Sri Lanka after bowling the hosts out for 290 in their first innings on the fourth day of the second Test in Colombo. India had earlier declared their first innings at 503 for 9, securing a substantial 213-run lead.
Sri Lanka showed some fight with Sonal Dinusha leading the way with a century. His innings provided the hosts with much-needed resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to stay with him as India kept the pressure on.
India’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings and wrapped things up after taking the final wickets in quick succession. Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 290, leaving them well behind India’s first-innings score.
With a deficit of 213 runs, Sri Lanka were asked to bat again without India starting a second innings. The follow-on decision put India in a strong position and left Sri Lanka facing the difficult task of saving the match.
