Russia launched a massive overnight drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, causing widespread damage and triggering air raid alerts across the city. Ukrainian authorities said air defence systems intercepted many of the incoming drones and missiles, but several projectiles struck residential neighbourhoods and civilian infrastructure, sparking fires and damaging buildings.
Emergency services were deployed across multiple districts to rescue residents, extinguish fires, and assess the extent of the destruction. Officials reported that several people were killed and many others sustained injuries in the attacks. Critical infrastructure, including power and transport facilities, was also affected, prompting local authorities to restore essential services and assist displaced residents.
The latest assault is among the largest attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks and comes amid intensified fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, calling for increased international support to strengthen the country’s air defence capabilities.
