Jammu, October 10: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said Global Capability Centres could play a major role in Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial growth over the next decade. He identified young talent, better infrastructure and supportive investment policies as strengths that could help the region attract global companies.
Addressing the closing session of the J&K Global Capability Centre Summit 2026, Sinha urged industry, academic institutions and the administration to work together to make the region a preferred destination for investment and innovation. He congratulated IIM Jammu, NASSCOM and partner institutions for organising the two-day event.
Sinha said the expansion of capability centres into smaller Indian cities offered Jammu and Kashmir an opportunity. According to him, India has more than 2,100 such centres employing over 19 lakh professionals.
He said these centres were increasingly focused on specialised skills and advanced capabilities. Jammu and Kashmir, he added, could become a place where new solutions are developed for international markets.
Highlighting the growth of local entrepreneurship, Sinha said the number of startups in the region had risen from 69 in 2020 to 1,305. Graduates from IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu, NIT Srinagar and other universities could help meet the workforce needs of businesses, he said.
He also identified lower operating costs, financial support and opportunities in agricultural technology, tourism technology and handicraft digitisation as advantages for potential investors.
Outlining priorities for the next five years, Sinha called for stronger partnerships between industry and educational institutions, reliable implementation of policies and wider access to economic opportunities. He expressed confidence that the summit could help lay the foundation for sustained investment and innovation in Jammu and Kashmir.
