Cairo, October 7: Yemen’s Houthi rebels said they launched missiles and drones at Saudi airports and military installations on Wednesday, while authorities in Aden reported an attack on the city’s airport.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree named Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, Abha airport and military facilities among the targets. The Saudi-led coalition said a ballistic missile was intercepted north of Riyadh. There was no independent confirmation that the strikes hit the targets claimed by the group.
In southern Yemen, Saree said the Houthis attacked a military camp near Aden airport. Local security officials, however, said two missiles were aimed at the airport. No casualties were reported.
Yemen’s Human Rights Ministry said a missile landed near the runway as a flight from Cairo was expected to arrive and passengers waited to travel to Jeddah. Flight-tracking information cited in the report indicated that the Cairo flight landed safely later that morning.
The latest attacks followed renewed fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces along Yemen’s Red Sea coast. Both sides offered conflicting accounts of territorial control, with government forces claiming gains and the Houthis insisting they were holding their ground. Those claims could not be independently verified.
