India produced a commanding performance in the second ODI to beat the West Indies by eight wickets and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing a huge target of 406, India reached the required score in 43.3 overs, riding on a brilliant double century from captain Shubman Gill and a century from Rohit Sharma.
Gill played the starring role, remaining unbeaten on 233. He took the attack to the West Indies bowlers from the beginning and kept the chase firmly under India’s control.
Rohit also made a valuable contribution, scoring 101 and providing India with a strong start. The pair put together a big opening partnership that effectively took the game away from the visitors.
Earlier, West Indies posted 405 runs after being sent in to bat. Their batsmen made the most of the conditions and put India under pressure with an imposing total.
However, India’s top order responded in style. Gill and Rohit kept the scoring rate high and ensured there was little opportunity for the West Indies to make a comeback.
The eight-wicket victory gives India an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series, with the third and final ODI still to be played.
Gill’s double century was the highlight of the match and added another major milestone to his growing list of achievements in ODI cricket.
