Bhubaneswar, October 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged stronger protection for India’s banking system against cybercriminals and cyber terrorists, warning that countries could also be weakened through attacks on their economies.
Speaking after inaugurating the Reserve Bank of India’s data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Modi said modern warfare extended beyond weapons and conventional battlefields. Protecting the banking network, he said, was becoming increasingly crucial as India’s economy expanded.
The Prime Minister said evolving cyber threats required better technology and stronger preparedness. Outdated tools and training methods would no longer be sufficient to tackle increasingly sophisticated attacks. He stressed the need for modern infrastructure and skilled personnel to safeguard financial systems.
Developed at a cost of ₹169 crore, the new RBI facilities are intended to strengthen the central bank’s technological infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities. The data centre will support its digital infrastructure requirements, while the training institute will help build expertise in responding to emerging cyber threats.
