Dushanbe, October 20: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Tajikistan Prime Minister Qohir Rosulzoda on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe.
Following the interaction, Singh highlighted the longstanding civilisational ties between India and Tajikistan. In a social media post, he also underlined the deep people-to-people connections that form an important part of the relationship.
The Defence Minister was in the Tajik capital to represent India at the 25th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government. During the visit, he also met Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref.
Addressing the SCO gathering, Singh called for a united approach against terrorism, stressing that there could be no justification or double standards in confronting it. He said terrorism claims innocent lives, disrupts investment and commerce, and denies young people opportunities.
Singh also highlighted the potential of the International North-South Transport Corridor and Iran’s Chabahar port to improve Central Asia’s access to wider markets.
