An Army soldier attained martyrdom under mysterious circumstances inside Sunjuwan Military Station on the outskirts of the City this morning with Army earlier stating that few rounds were fired at the Station but later retracted the statement saying the incident wasn’t a terror attack and it is under investigation.

In another incident, security forces recovered three sophisticated pistols dropped by a drone from Pakistan at village Mallu Chack along the International Border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district late last night. No arrests have so far been made in the drone-dropping despite searches conducted by the security personnel in the area.

Few gun shots were heard from Sunjuwan Military at around 10.50 am today.
Reinforcement of police and SOG rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned off. Traffic was temporary halted.
An official statement issued by the Army earlier stated: “Today at about 10.50 am few rounds were fired at Sunjuwan Military Station. One Soldier is critically injured. Operation has been launched. Further details being ascertained”.
However, in the evening, the Army came out with another statement which said the incident in which a soldier was injured wasn’t a terror attack.
“Further update on Sunjuwan-initial investigations by the Indian Army suggest that the incident in which a soldier lost his life is the morning is not a terror attack. Cause of the death of the soldier is being investigated,” the latest statement said.
The revised statement indicated that martyrdom of the soldier was mysterious.
A major fidayeen attack took place at Sunjuwan Military Station on February 10, 2018 in which six soldiers were martyred while a civilian and three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were killed.
The soldier who attained martyrdom under mysterious circumstances at Sunjuwan Military Station today has been identified as Naik Kuldeep Singh of Tarn Taran in Punjab. He is survived by his wife, three-year-old son and one-month daughter.
Army, paramilitary forces, police and Special Operations Group (SOG) kept searching areas around Sunjuwan as earlier it was believed that the terror attack might have been carried out by the terrorists using sniper rifle. However, no untoward movement was detected in the area and the operation was called off late in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF), police and SOG Jammu launched a massive search operation late last night at village Mallu Chak, close to the International Border with Pakistan, in Ramgarh sector of Samba district following reports about movement of a drone from across the border.
“While the drone couldn’t be traced, security teams recovered a consignment of arms dropped by the drone,” the officials said.
Recoveries include three sophisticated pistols.
Security forces carried out search operations in the border belt throughout the night but no arrests were made.
Security agencies believed that guide of the terrorists, who had to receive the consignment perhaps became aware that the cops have reached the spot, and he didn’t turn up to pick it up.
The consignment had to be delivered to the terrorists operating in mountainous areas of the Jammu region by the guide for targeted killings. However, it fell into the hands of security forces before it could be picked up by the terror associate and handed over to the terrorists.
Earlier also, security forces have foiled several attempts by Pakistan to supply arms, narcotics and cash through drones to the terrorists by dropping the consignments on the border. Most of such consignments were seized by the security personnel while few others reached to the hands of the terrorists.
The BSF has been maintaining strict surveillance on the International Border after reports about infiltration of the terrorists from Pakistan in Samba-Kathua sector and Pathankot in Punjab.
