The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have raised concerns over the lack of adequate firefighting infrastructure in the remote Warwan area of Kishtwar district following a recent fire incident.
The parties said the incident has once again highlighted the difficulties faced by residents of the far-flung region when dealing with emergencies, particularly fires. They called for immediate attention to the shortage of firefighting equipment, trained personnel and other essential infrastructure.
AIP leaders said residents in Warwan are often left vulnerable because of the area’s difficult terrain and limited emergency-response facilities. They urged the administration to strengthen the local response system and ensure that firefighting equipment is available within the area rather than being brought from distant locations.
The PDP also expressed concern over the absence of adequate fire-safety arrangements and said people living in remote areas should not have to depend on delayed assistance during emergencies. The party called for the establishment of properly equipped fire stations or permanent firefighting facilities in strategically located parts of Warwan.
Local residents have similarly sought better emergency infrastructure, pointing to the long distances and difficult road connectivity that can make it difficult for fire services to reach affected villages quickly.
The parties urged the district administration and the concerned departments to assess the existing infrastructure in Warwan and take measures to improve emergency preparedness. They also called for regular inspections, availability of firefighting equipment and training for local personnel and volunteers.
The issue has renewed demands for stronger public infrastructure in Warwan, where geographical isolation and limited connectivity can make emergency response particularly challenging.
