Kathua: Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were killed in a firing incident at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Project in the Mashka area of Kathua district on Tuesday evening, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the incident followed a verbal altercation among CISF personnel deployed at the project. A CISF head constable allegedly opened fire on his colleagues after the argument, leaving four personnel critically injured.
The injured personnel were taken for medical treatment, but all four later succumbed to their injuries. One of those killed was an Assistant Commandant, while the other victims included a Sub-Inspector and two constables.
The suspected shooter, identified in reports as a CISF head constable from the 2009 batch, has been apprehended and handed over to the police for questioning. The exact reason behind the altercation and what led to the firing has not yet been established.
Senior officers have reached the area and an investigation is underway. The CISF is also conducting an internal inquiry to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The incident took place at a remote hydropower project in the Basohli area, where CISF personnel were deployed for security duties. Further details are expected as the police and CISF investigations progress.
