Srinagar, October 22: Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti has criticised the Centre over an eviction notice served on a mosque near the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.
In a social media post, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister expressed concern that the notice threatened the existence of the historic place of worship.
The controversy concerns the Race Course mosque, whose authorities were reportedly given six days to vacate the premises. The notice has also drawn objections from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who pointed to the mosque’s status as a gazetted Waqf property and listed heritage site.
Separately, the Delhi Waqf Board has sought protection for the mosque after its electricity and water connections were allegedly disconnected during an October 7 demolition drive.
