Srinagar, November 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education plans to begin distributing free textbooks to education zones from mid-November, as schools across Kashmir enter the new academic session.
A board official said distribution had initially been planned for the first week of November. However, delayed supplies of revised textbooks for some classes pushed back the schedule. Books for most classes have arrived, but the board intends to dispatch complete supplies together.
JKBOSE has revised textbooks for Classes 1, 2, 3 and 6 in line with the National Education Policy 2020, the official said. Further revisions for other classes are planned for the 2027–28 session.
Printing requirements were calculated using enrolment figures from UDISE Plus. The official said textbooks were generally available through booksellers, although revised Class 3 books were still awaited.
Last year, free textbook distribution began in the final week of November. The board had sought an earlier start this year to support the opening of the academic session.
