St John’s, November 5: India and Guyana have taken fresh steps to strengthen their partnership, with New Delhi announcing a $500 million credit facility and the two countries signing three cooperation agreements.
The announcement accompanied talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali in Antigua and Barbuda.
Their discussions covered trade, investment, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, digital technology and capacity building. The credit line will support projects in roads, health and defence.
The agreements provide for the supply and installation of manufacturing projects for micro and small enterprises, grants for Quick Impact Projects, and cooperation on digital public infrastructure and a UPI-like payment system.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has already completed several development projects in Guyana, and the credit facility will further deepen that cooperation.
