President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Indian athletes Yashvir Singh, Murali Sreeshankar, Vithya Ramraj, Gulveer Singh and Parul Chaudhary for their medal-winning performances at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Yashvir Singh won silver in the men’s javelin throw with an impressive effort of 85 metres. His performance helped India secure two places on the podium, with Rohit Yadav taking the bronze medal in the event.
Murali Sreeshankar also finished with a silver medal, clearing 8.07 metres in the men’s long jump. The result added another medal to his Asian Games record after he had also won silver in the event at the previous edition.
Vithya Ramraj earned a bronze medal in the women’s 400-metre hurdles. She finished the race in 54.75 seconds, setting a new national record in the process. She had earlier been part of the Indian mixed 4×400-metre relay team that won silver at the Games.
Gulveer Singh added another silver to India’s athletics campaign in the men’s 1500 metres. He clocked 3:36.72, a personal best, to finish second. The medal was his second silver of the Games after his earlier performance in the men’s 10,000 metres.
Parul Chaudhary completed another successful outing by winning bronze in the women’s 5000 metres. She finished in 15:14.61 and collected her second medal of the Games, having already won bronze in the women’s 3000-metre steeplechase.
In her messages, President Murmu congratulated the athletes for their performances and wished them continued success in their sporting careers. She also acknowledged the personal bests and national record achieved during the competition.
The performances have added several medals to India’s athletics campaign at the Asian Games and highlighted the country’s strength across field events, sprint hurdles and long-distance running.
For the athletes, the medals mark another significant chapter in their international careers and provide further momentum as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
