New Delhi: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has stressed the need to shift greater attention towards preventive healthcare, saying that staying healthy should be given as much importance as treating illness.
Addressing a health and wellness event in New Delhi, Singh said healthcare should not begin only after a person falls sick. He called for greater awareness about healthy living, regular health checks and early detection of diseases.
The minister said changes in lifestyle and growing health concerns make it important for people to take a more active role in looking after their well-being. Simple measures such as proper nutrition, physical activity and timely medical consultation can help people manage health risks at an early stage.
Singh also spoke about the importance of taking a broader view of health. According to him, physical health, mental well-being, nutrition and lifestyle are closely connected and should not be treated as separate issues.
He highlighted the potential of India’s traditional health practices, including Ayurveda and Yoga, in promoting wellness and prevention. At the same time, he stressed the importance of research and scientific validation while integrating traditional approaches with modern healthcare.
The minister said improvements in hospitals, medical technology and treatment facilities need to be accompanied by stronger preventive measures. Greater awareness at the community level, he added, can help reduce the pressure on the healthcare system.
Singh also emphasised the role of individuals, families and communities in building a healthier society. He said regular attention to health and early intervention can make a significant difference in people’s quality of life.
His remarks underline the growing focus on preventive healthcare in India, with greater emphasis on awareness, early detection and healthier lifestyles alongside medical treatment.
