New Delhi, October 24: Medical graduates seeking postgraduate training in Himachal Pradesh will have more opportunities following the Centre’s approval of 320 additional seats across six government medical colleges. Union Health Minister J P Nadda announced the decision on Saturday, along with central assistance of around ₹415 crore.
Of the new seats, Shimla will receive 91, while Tanda and Hamirpur will get 57 each. Another 55 have been approved for Mandi, 32 for Nahan and 28 for Chamba. The expansion aims to increase specialist training opportunities and improve specialised healthcare in the state.
Nadda said the Himachal Pradesh government submitted the proposal on June 23. The issue also came up during his meeting with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at the AIIMS Bilaspur convocation on October 6.
With central approval now in place, Nadda urged the state government to complete the necessary steps without delay so that the additional seats can become operational and benefit aspiring specialists.
