New Delhi: State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a temporary waiver of ATM transaction charges for its customers during the proposed nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
The decision is aimed at making cash withdrawals easier for customers at a time when bank branch services are expected to be affected by the strike. SBI customers using other banks’ ATMs during these three days will not have to pay the applicable ATM transaction charges covered under the waiver.
The three-day strike has been called by bank employee unions over their demands and is expected to affect normal operations at several bank branches across the country. The timing also means customers could face a longer break from regular branch services as the strike follows the weekend.
SBI has advised customers who have important branch-related work to complete it before the strike begins. Customers can continue to use online banking, mobile banking and UPI for routine transactions during the period.
ATMs will remain available for cash withdrawals, giving customers another option if they need cash while branches are closed or operating with limited staff.
The temporary waiver is expected to be particularly useful for SBI customers who may need to use another bank’s ATM during the strike. The bank has taken the step to reduce the inconvenience caused by the disruption in regular banking services.
Customers have also been advised to keep sufficient cash and complete essential banking transactions in advance to avoid last-minute difficulties during the strike period.
