Srinagar, November 5: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday accused the National Conference of giving in to the BJP, saying his differences with the party stemmed from its political approach towards Jammu and Kashmir. He pledged to resist attempts to make the prevailing situation an accepted reality.
Ruhullah, who announced his resignation from the NC and his Srinagar Lok Sabha seat at a Budgam rally on November 3, said he would continue challenging the BJP’s policies towards the region.
He also rejected BJP leader Ram Madhav’s suggestion that the rally had support from BJP sympathisers. Denying any association with Madhav, Ruhullah questioned the claim and asked the NC leadership to explain it. Madhav had described the NC as divided while maintaining that the BJP had no role in its internal affairs.
The National Conference, meanwhile, criticised Ruhullah for turning against the organisation after benefiting from its platform. His departure followed repeated accusations that the leadership had failed to honour election commitments, including the promise to seek restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
Ruhullah has indicated that his next political effort will centre on a wider movement for the rights and dignity of the region’s people.
