Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has said his party will continue to raise the political and constitutional issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir and remain committed to what it describes as the rights of the people of the region.
Speaking at a party programme, Abdullah said the National Conference would continue to take up these issues through democratic and constitutional means. He said the party’s position on Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status remained unchanged.
Abdullah said the party would continue to raise public concerns through the Assembly, Parliament and other democratic forums. He also stressed the need to keep discussions on Jammu and Kashmir’s political future alive.
Referring to the situation after the changes made in August 2019, Abdullah said the National Conference had challenged the decisions before the Supreme Court. He said the party would continue to pursue its political position while working within democratic institutions.
He also spoke about the functioning of the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir and said it was dealing with several challenges while trying to address issues affecting people.
Abdullah expressed hope that the Centre would adopt a more open approach towards Jammu and Kashmir and that meaningful political dialogue could take place. He said dialogue was important for addressing differences and discussing issues concerning the people.
The National Conference leader said his party would continue its political activities and remain engaged with people across Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that constitutional and democratic issues would remain an important part of the party’s agenda.
